Art in Key Stage 4 aims to encourage a personal response by stimulating imagination, sensitivity, conceptual thinking, powers of observation and analytical ability. Students gain confidence and enthusiasm as they develop technical skills in drawing, painting and composition, and are able to identify and solve problems in visual forms. Successful students should demonstrate an understanding of past and contemporary art and design practice, and be able to produce artwork that embraces a range of ideas. Art and Design also develops a greater awareness of the role played by the visual arts society and in history, broaden cultural horizons and individual experience.
